Whatever its origin and identity, the poor widow’s mite has become one of the most frequently referenced and most popular ancient biblical coins. Here are two things we know about the widow’s mite story, as related by both Mark and Luke: It is certainly a story about charity and goodwill, rather than a story about money.

The poor widows mite book New Living Translation (NLT) The Widow’s Offering. 21 While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. 2 Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins. [3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.

4 For they have given a tiny part of their. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.” Mark   If true, this is a modern version of the story of the “widow’s mite” (MarkLuke ), in which a poor widow donated two small “mites,” the lowest denomination coin in the realm, to the Temple treasury.

To Remember: Jesus knows all about us. Vocabulary. Sacrifice: to give up something valuable or important ; Mite: the Roman coin that was worth the least Lesson- Mark 41 And he sat down over against the treasury, and beheld how the multitude cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a poor widow, and she cast in two. Just as God provided for the widow and her son in Elijah’s day (1 Kings –16), God also provided for the widow in Jesus’ day. It is interesting that, just before Jesus commented on the widow’s mite, He commented on the scribes “who devour widows.

The Widow’s Offering (). 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.

42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put. For centuries, Christians have assumed that Jesus wants us to emulate a poor widow’s sacrificial giving of her only 2 coins.

As the story goes in M Jesus was watching people put money into the Temple treasury. Rich people put in a lot of money.

Then, a poor widow put in 2 small copper coins worth about a penny. He uses illustrative language, saying: “You cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of greediness and self-indulgence.

Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. 43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which. The Widow's Mite.

Theme. It isn't the size of the gift that matters. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on." Mark (NIV).

In this message, Pastor John Lindell shares a strengthening sermon titled, "The Widow's Mite." Join us as we read the story of the widow in the temple in Mark and hear valuable teaching on worshipping the Lord with our giving.

Our prayer is that this message would encourage you to honor God in every area of your life. Understanding the narrative of the widow’s mite can help us in understanding true devotion to God. How well do we give to God.

The story of the widow’s offering as found in Mark –44 has long provided the Church with an example of humble devotion to the Lord. Further, it speaks to the people of God about the true nature of giving. Jesus said of the poor widow, She "hath cast in more than they all." The rich had bestowed from their abundance, many of them to be seen and honored by men.

Their large donations had deprived them of no comfort, or even luxury; they had required no sacrifice, and could not be compared in value with the widow's mite. {DA }. By far the most famous passage in the Gospels about tithing is the account of the widow’s mites.

The account is found in Mark and Luke Jesus and His disciples are in the temple, observing people bring their tithes and offerings. They observed the rich giving large amounts of money, and then saw a poor widow giving two mites.

Even her ragged clothing is luminescent. By contrast, the rich men in their expensive robes fade into the shadows behind the radiance of this woman’s gift. An element that made this work so unique was Christensen’s choice to depict the widow as a young woman.
